Frequently Asked Questions
What is SonarWise?
SonarWise is an independent guide to small-boat fishing electronics: trolling motors, fish finders, marine batteries, chargers and wiring. Every recommendation comes from published manufacturer specs and comparison, with the reasoning shown. Read more on the About page.
How does SonarWise make money?
Some product links earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you, disclosed on every page where it applies. Commissions never decide a recommendation. Details in the affiliate disclosure.
How does the System Planner size a trolling motor and battery?
It applies Minn Kota’s 2 lb of thrust per 100 lb of loaded boat, Minn Kota’s published wire gauge and circuit breaker table, and standard battery math (usable depth of discharge and the Peukert effect). Every formula is printed on the planner page, and rules of thumb are labeled as such.
Can I request a topic or correction?
